Cycle 6 - Session 26 - What's Mental Health?
Self-Reflection Questions
WHO can identify if you are having situational vs long-term mental health issues?
WHAT should you do if you find yourself in a prolonged negative state of mind?
WHERE can you get immediate support if you're having a mental health crisis?
WHY will a depressed person often display the same behaviors as a negative person?
WHEN others show a concern for your mental health, what should you at least consider?
HOW long should anyone go without seeing a mental health professional for a check-up?
Negative state of mind (can also be displayed by a depressed person)
Disconnect – Loss of self-awareness – not present, not maintaining good spiritual connection, not feeling motivated
Insensitivity – Unawareness of others – non-empathetic - having a don't care attitude
Not genuine - Not authentic, lying to yourself or others about your mood, being reckless
Limited world thinking – Self-centered emotional reasoning, or paranoia
Temperamental – Lack of self-control – emotional responses inappropriate to situation
Indifferent – Surrounding yourself with known negative influences, hopelessness, isolation, or lack of self-care.
Negative company – Spending a lot of time (within a week) with people who are not living with a purpose.
Hide emotions - Do not address or isolate from emotional situations. Including but not limited to drug use.
Indifferent about Life - Don't care about life in general, even their own life. Don't care about the lives of others.
Self-Reflection Points
Medical conditions, genetics, environment, situations, sleep, drugs, diet, etc. can also disrupt your mood and behaviors. It’s a case-by-case situation and should be talked about with an experienced mental health professional.
Just as you regularly go to a professional to ensure you are in the best physical health. Don't forget about your mental health. Talking to a mental health professional will ensure that your mental state is in the best possible health. FYI: Without your mind, there is nothing else to care for.
Make sure you are getting the proper time and attention from your doctor. You can always change your doctor if you are not comfortable with the level of care. Having more than one option is always best.
Keep in mind that any person can be diagnosed with one or more mental illnesses at any age, at any time in their life, no matter their family history.
Please note: Mental Illness is a real and very serious illness. If you think that you or someone you know may be suffering and would like to get some help. Go to the nearest hospital or call 911 or the emergency number in your area. People are there waiting to help you.
